TMDSCNCD263: UART2 Usage with control card

Part Number: TMDSCNCD263

Tool/software:

We have the TMDSCNCD263 and the control card base board.  Is it possible to use UART2?  If so, what settings need to be setup to enable it?

  • Hi Tom,

To use UART2, you will need to configure the device pinmux for the UART2 peripheral.

For simplicity, I am going to demonstrate this using the Empty SDK example, but this can be configured in any CCS project.

    1. After importing the CCS project into CCS, expand the example file tree and locate example.syscfg:
    2. Navigate to the UART Tab:
      1. You'll notice that UART0 is selected by default.
    3. Add a second UART Instance and change the Instance to UART2:
      1. Note: to have the signals accessible at the control card HSEC connector, change the pins to MMC_DAT0 and MMC_DAT2
    4. Re-compile your CCS example

You can now use UART2 on the EVM.

  • Unfortunately, we found it requires a bit more work.  The resistor network RA2 must be depopulated, and the network RA3 must be populated to rout the signals out.

  • Tom,

Yes, that is also correct. To make the resistor swap easier, I suggest depopulating RA2 and then solder bridging the pads on the RA3 footprint.
