AM2634-Q1: Hercules or Sitara AM26x for new designs

Tool/software:

Hi,

It seems like the AM26x series mentioned in

https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/arm-based-microcontrollers-group/arm-based-microcontrollers/f/arm-based-microcontrollers-forum/1033519/tms-hercules-family-is-old-what-s-next-for-automotive-graded-asil-d

is already active and looks fantastic.

Considering the latest updates in the Hercules toolchain, it makes me wonder whether Hercules is still relevant for new designs? Is there a feature in the Hercules family that is not present or substitutable by the Sitara AM26x?

Thanks!

  • Hello Varban,

There are benefits for both families. Sitara AM26x has the latest peripherals including Gigabit Ethernet and newer motion control peripherals with added features for ADC, EPWM etc. So for latest and greatest feature sets you'd definitely want to look into AM26x.

When considering Hercules over Sitara a few factors in it's favor include embedded flash versus needing to use a SPI flash, wider array of package options and varying feature sets across a broader device family, and to a lesser extent, the maturity of software / collateral as AM26x is new and still getting collateral generated.

    Best Regards,
