I have used eval boards since the AMD AM2900 evaluation kit. probably older than most people reading this.
I would have to say that the "out of box" experience with the LP-MSPM0L136, on a scale of 1- 10 is a -5 or -6, probably the worst experience I have had.

So sorry to break the "kumbaya" everyone expects but the board/software doesn't work as someone is hoping for.

I try to use the "out of box" and that from a fortune 1000 company that should be bullet proof, an impressive demo that shows the competence of the company. That's a user's first impression.

It failed miserably. While I tried to use the web based "out of box" it failed after using 3 different browsers. rebooted the whole 9 yards.
The board gets detected but then quickly disappears.

I try running Code Composer and it fails, says i need to update the firmware. why doesn't it do that within CCS?

I get a failure as you can see and it indicates I should go reflash the firmware. OK, I think that is horrible for a "out of box" to require that step but OK.

I run xdsdfu.exe with -e to enumerate the boards and its there, the board is detected. If I use -m the board is no longer seen and the flashing utility does not work.

I am using the provided USB cable and I have just taken the board out of the package it was sent in.

What are the next steps to resolve? Send me a new board?

I never bother with the OOB experience. I just go right to a blinky, But in your case it does look like the onboard XDS110 might be having issues. Usually it does automagically update the firmware - at least on a PC. At one time it did not update on my Mac, so I had to use a PC to update the firmware. I can't speak to Linux.

sure, can't get to blinky as Code Composer Studio won't connnect as it alleges XDS110 needs to be updated (see pic). I am on Windows PC.

But as I said, OOB is a place for the company to shine and having a OOB which doesn't work reflects poorly on the product and company. means nothing was tested.

otherwise they should avoid the headfake and say "we don't have anything that works out of the box, you will have to tinker, call support, post to engineer2engineer as we are not going to directly support our product and you will have to wait until someone gets around and answers it.

Its a shame that no one is around from the 1980s-2004 that remembers what a real technical support experience is like.

I am, and I remember it being a lot worse unless you were buying 50000 of something.

hasn't been that way for me. we used to call and get to a knowledgeable person on second ring. now its just a filter.

Hey Tom,

Could you install the latest version of Code Composer Studio or Theia?

They contain the drivers that should address the issue you are seeing at the moment.

Hey Tom,

Sorry to hear that you are having a bad experience. I think you are running into a driver issue that was introduced in CCS 12.8.0. We identified this last week and pushed out a new release, CCS12.8.1 yesterday. Please update your CCS and Uniflash and then you should be able to update the onboard XDS drivers and connect to the device.

i just downloaded CCS Theia 1.5 late last night. it has old driver in it. I will thank you, as the link i found, and then rebooted, allowed me to run the xdsdfu which then allowed CCS to do the update. but at the same time I have to indicate that the webpage where I download software is editable. you could edit that to say "this installer is not going to put in the right driver so you have to go to this link to get the driver".

Then I could save the 3-4 hours spent on the issue and the $68 I just spent to Mouser to buy a second board and overnight it. The bar is much higher gentlemen.

"I found" = the link provided by Henry for the updated driver. Curiously the file to download, the "updated driver" is installed with driverpkg_1.0.0.exe. I guess the prior version was pre-release 0.9 or something.

and not clicking "this resolved my issue" as it seems to point the finger at the customer. If you have a button which says "this resolves TI's issue" or "this resolves the deficiency in our released product" i will be happy to click it. I'm not the one who had an "issue". your board was not working because of a software configuration problem which was not shared with the customer that was downloading.
