Hello,

I am using UNIFLASH with sbl_ospi.release.tiimage with my multi-core applications in QSPI(1S) boot mode. It works well and the application runs. However, I don't really know what's happening behind the scenes.

Question 1: On the EVM there are two external flash devices. On which device is the SBL and .appimage flashed please?

Hi Kier,

The SBL and .appimage are flashed to the OSPI NOR Flash device.

On AM263Px, the device can only boot from the flash device connected to OSPI Chip Select 0 (OSPI_CSn0).

Question 2: When I select QSPI(1S) in the boot mode table, is it a typo? Should that actually say OSPI(1S)?

Question 3: What does 1S (4S and 8S) mean please? Does it mean it uses 1, 4 or 8 DQ lines?

No, the bootmode table is correct. The bootmode table is copied from the device datasheet, which is why it is in the User Guide.

OSPI/QSPI (1S) modes are essentially the same thing - it just means one Data line is being used.

Yes, this refers to the # of data lines.

Thanks Brennan,

As mentioned, my multicore program boots in QSPI(1S) mode. It also boots in OSPI(8S) mode. However...

Question 4: ...it does not boot in QSPI(4S) mode. Is there a known reason for that please?

Kier,

The OSPI flash device on the TMDSCNCD263P (IS25LX256-LHLE) can only operate in 1S and 8S mode. See section 4 in the IS25LX256-LHLE data sheet: https://www.issi.com/WW/pdf/25LX-WX256-128.pdf

OK, thanks. Makes sense.

I guess the 4S mode should not be listed as a valid mode in the EVM user guide then. I made a request to remove it in the document feedback.
