AM2634: RGMII pin drive strength

Part Number: AM2634

Tool/software:

Hi all,

looking at the registers, we are seeing this bitfield for SC (Slew Control).

How is the drive strength of the RGMII pins affected by this? The datasheet seems to say there is 6mA drive strength for LVCMOS pins. What is the drive strength for the higher slew rate?

Thanks!

  • Hi Gunter,

In general while drive strength and slew rate have dependencies, changing one doesn't necessarily require changing the other. The drive strength is more related to ensuring there is enough current to meet the slew rate needs for a given load. So increasing/decreasing the slew rate does not have to require a change in drive strength if the existing drive strength is sufficient.

That said, I can't say for sure if that applies here and will ask further about this, including what the higher vs lower rate is as that could also impact if the drive strength would need to be adjusted.

  • Hi Gunter,

We are still seeking the right design expert who can speak to this as its a very specific query here. I'll be out for a couple weeks but I've tasked one of my team members to continue driving this forward during that time.
