9.External Mux Enable and Select pins ( AD1EXT_ENA and AD1EXT_SEL )

as Digital GIO? If yes, then how can I configure the same in HALCoGen?

Hi Dhir,

The logic is simple, if we have I/O control registers in the registers section then those pins can be used as GIO, otherwise not possible.

For example See CAN registers:

Here we have I/O control registers so we can use them for GIO functionality.

So based on this analogy here is my verification:

1. eCAP       - No
2. eQEP       - No
3. ePWM      - No
4. FlexRay   - No
5. MDIO       - No
6. RMII         - No
7. MII           -  No
8. ETM-R5   - No
9.External Mux Enable and Select pins ( AD1EXT_ENA and AD1EXT_SEL ) - No

In ADC only ADxEVT pin can be used as GIO:

And also remember this, 

In above i mentioned "No" for some of the modules right, that means only on those functionalities the pin may not possible to use GIO, sometimes a pin can have multiple functionalities, so maybe on other functionalities again we can use them as GIO.

For example:

If you verify above W8 pin then the GIO functionality is not possible if you configure W8 in either ADxEXT_SEL[0] or ECAP3, however still we can use this pin as GIO if we configure in MIBSPI3SIMO.So, you need to verify carefully and can configure them in GIO.

Okay, got it. Also, if some pins have either just input or output functionality, can I use the input only pins for Digital Inputs and similarly, the output only pins as Digital Output? Consider the below case, where I don't want to use FlexRay, but instead as general purpose pins.

No, it is not possible to do that. Because you don't have I/O control registers in the corresponding peripheral, right?

If there are no I/O control registers, then we cannot directly alter the state of the pin (in the case of output) or read the state of the pin (in the case of input) right? So, there is no direct hardware support for these pins.

However, for some peripherals we can manage it through software,

For example:

In the case of ePWM:

Most of the ePWM pins are outputs and we will use these pins to generate PWM on the corresponding pins, right?

So, what i can do here is that, whenever i want to SET this output pin i will generate duty cycle of PWM with 100% that means logic-1 and similarly whenever i want to reset then i will generate PWM with 0% duty that means logic-0 will get generate right.

And also, this may not be possible for the all the peripherals, to understand on how to use this kind of things means we need complete knowledge about the corresponding peripherals and associated registers.

And also remember this is just a theory, you just need to do complete testings to assure the behavior and before going for actual production.

You might also ask for which peripherals i can do this kind of process? I don't have direct answer for this, you need to refer TRM and understand the peripheral completely to find on how to use corresponding peripheral pins as GIO in software.

Thanks for the clarification! I have a similar question regarding the EMIF address and data pins. Can these pins be used as general-purpose I/Os? I am interfacing a NAND flash (3DFN8G08VS1706) with EMIF, but this NAND flash does not have separate address and data pins. Additionally, I have no remaining I/Os available, making it impossible to multiplex the EMIF I/Os to GPIOA[x]. Could you clarify if this configuration is feasible? 

Also, I would like to use the EMIF address pins for general purpose Digital Outputs if possible.
