TMS570LC4357: Checking privilege mode of mcu

Tool/software:

I am reading and clearing the status registers of ESM. Eg ESM Status Register 1 (ESMSR1)

I would like to clear the channel bits after reading to check if the error happens again. Writing is in privilege mode only. How do I know if the mcu is in privilege mode? I read somewhere that there is a bit in the control register that indicates if the mcu is in privilege mode or user mode. Please let me know which bit , ie which register and which bit. If mcu is in user mode, how to set it back to privilege mode?

Hi LayEng,

The mode bits in the CPSR register indicates the operating mode:

As shown above, except user mode all other modes indicate the core is in privilege mode.

Thanks for your reply. The image for CPSR that you try to paste above is deleted. Can you try to paste again. I can't find it in the TRM except the mention of bits in the register. If possible, please also write the address of the register. I can use that to search as well. Thank you

Thanks for your reply. Can I say that privilege mode is 0x0000001f and 0x00000013? I can get this value using this library function _getCPSRValue_() ? I am using this code to get the privilege mode. Please let me know if it is correct.

if((u32PCStat==0x00000013) || (u32PCStat==0x0000001f))
{
return true;
}
else
{
return false;
}

true => privilege, false => non privilege

Modes other than user mode collectively known as privilege mode:

So, i am suggesting you modify your code as below:

uint32_t u32PCStat=_getCPSRValue_() & 0x0000001f;
if((u32PCStat==0x00000010))
{
return false;
}
else
{
return true;
}

true => privilege, false => non-privilege / user mode
