AM2612: Decaps value clarification

Part Number: AM2612
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP-AM261, LP-AM263,

Tool/software:

Hi,

The Decaps count and values have mismatch in HW design guide and LP-AM261 schematics.

Same is observed in LP-AM263 schematics and HW design guide also.

Queries:

  1. Can we consider Rev-C hardware design guidelines as reference for circuit design for AM2612?
  2. Whether using 4.7uF as bulk capacitor in places where 3.3uF mentioned is recommended for AM2612?

Regards

Vishnu

  • Hello Vishnu,

HW Design Guides are an initial resource to use for details like decoupling capacitors. It also comes with this note:

The decoupling network presented in the sections below and in the AM263x EVM schematics and layouts are reasonable starting points for any AM263x, AM263Px, or AM261x PCB design. However, due to specific PCB routing differences and the resulting plane capacitance and decoupling mounting inductances and other parasitics, TI highly recommends that designers simulate and measure the specific power distribution network performance.

So some of our HW designs deviate from the list based on the system requirements we are trying to meet with the given EVM.

For bulk cap replacement the answer is ultimately that you'd need to do the simulations to check and make sure that the power network performs as expected when doing so.
