MCU-PLUS-SDK-AM243X: Sporadic telegram gaps on ProfiNet when used "reversed"

Part Number: MCU-PLUS-SDK-AM243X
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IND-COMMS-SDK, SYSCONFIG

Tool/software:

During tests of our device in a ring topology, we detected sporadic telegram gaps.

Connection:
PLC -> (Port1) Device1 (Port2) <-> (Port1) Device2
This normal connection works without any issues

Connection:
PLC -> (Port2) Device1 (Port1) <-> (Port2) Device2
This "reversed" connection has sporadic loss of telegrams

In case of the issue the Frames are sent right in time, but the attached CycleCounter has not the values like expected.

  • Hi Robert,

    We will test this topology and provide an update soon to confirm whether this issue is observed in our setup.

    Could you provide answers to the following questions to better understand the issue?

    1) Which Industrial Communications SDK version are you using?

    2)

    This "reversed" connection has sporadic loss of telegrams

    What type frames are lost in this topology? Is it just the PROFINET IO frames?

    3) Could you share a wireshark capture? Is the cycle counter content in the packet not incrementing uniformly? Are all frames received but just not in correct order?

    Regards,
    Laxman

  • Hi Laxman,
    thank you for your fast reply.
    1.) We are using:

    • IND-COMMS-SDK 9.2.0.24 mit Patch für Port 2
    • MCU+ SDK 9.2.0.50 (ist im IND-COMMS-SDK enthalten)
    • SysConfig 1.21.2
    • LLVM/Clang 3.2.2LTS
    • TMG PROFINET-Stack V6.0.0.0

    2.) The frames are not really lost, the device sends the pnio frames with a very accurate timing, just the Cycle-Counter value sent with each frame is not matching. As consequence a Indu-Sol bus checker marks these frames as lost frames, due to the unexpected cycle counter value.

    3.) I can send you a wireshark recording do you have an email address or link where to send this information?

    Regards,
    Robert

  • Hi Robert,

    I will shortly send you mail and you can share the wireshark logs here.

    Regards,
    Laxman
