AM2432: How to Compress sbl_uart_uniflash.Release.hs_fs.tiimage Within 256KB

Hi TI Experts,

Customer is working on AM2432 SDK9.2.

Due to their current memory resource partition, they need compress the sbl_uart_uniflash.Release.hs_fs.tiimage within 256KB.

However, currently in the release mode compilation, the sbl_uart_uniflash.Release.hs_fs.tiimage is 290KB, which is larger than their target value 256KB.

Customer needs a way to reduce it under 256KB, could you give some clue please? By the way, the bin fill generated is only 63KB, why there is a huge difference for the size comparing to the tiimage (290KB)?

The final SBL hs_fs image is the combination of the SBL binary + sysfw + boarconfig blob: https://software-dl.ti.com/mcu-plus-sdk/esd/AM243X/11_00_00_15/exports/docs/api_guide_am243x/BOOTFLOW_GUIDE.html#autotoc_md602

Please note that SYSFW binary takes around 220kB of space and boardcfg blob around 3kB, so if you are only concerned with reducing the size of the SBL binary to less than 256kB then this might be okay and you don't have to do anything else.

Thanks for your reply. So how to compress the final uart_sbl fs_hs image within 256KB, could you show the methods in sbl_uart_uniflash demo project?

As you could see from customer's reply, they are caring about the image not just binary, and need reduce the image within 256KB, would that be feasible to do that?

Hi Zoshaw, Kevin,

The SYSFW binary itself takes around 220kB, so it is a bit difficult to reduce the size of the hs_fs appimage to less than 256kB as we can not reduce the size of SYSFW binary.

Could you let me know what is the use case behind reducing the size of the entire hs_fs image (which contains SYSFW + Boardcfg blob binary as well). If they are concerned about MSRAM usage then they only need to worry about the size of the application binary, as SYSFW + Boardcfg are not loaded to MSRAM.
