Tool/software:

We are looing for a functional-safety PMIC for our system.

We are designing a controller with functional safety functions, so we require information for FMEDA calculations.

Additionally, we are implementing the AM2434 as part of the design. Our product will consist of a CPU main board and interface boards to connect to external peripherals.

The chip we are inquiring about will be populated on one of the interface boards.

We believe that the AM243X team may have a suitable PMIC recommendation for the AM2434.

We would greatly appreciate it if you could help connect us with the relevant team or share any suggested options they may have.

Additionally, we would appreciate it if you could provide the Functional Safety FIT data for the proposed solution.

AM243x has a reference design with TPS65219: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIPA-050019

However you mention safety functions - is this a functional safety application - can you elaborate a little more about the targeted application (is this automotive and which kind of system)? Is there a certain ASIL level that you are targeting or particular FUSA features you would be looking for in the PMIC (e.g. Q&A watchdog, monitoring, etc)?

Hi Katie,

Thank you for your answering this question.

The power design guide that you shared is for general purpose.

We are targeting a SIL3 design in the IEC 61508 scheme, the safety function is the emergency stop function for devices under machinery directive.

Could you please recommend a suitable PMIC for the AM2434 with the functional safety application?

Hi Katie,

Please allow me to make an additional comment.

We need the power element to achieve SFF 90%(type A) or 99%(type B) depends on how detailed FMEA report TI can provide. We also need the failure rate data per siemens norm or IEC 62380(with evidence showing that IEC 62380 is more appropriate)

Ideally, we are looking for a PMIC which we can claim is a Type A component (IEC 61508-2).

If you are making a SIL-3 targeted design, you might consider TPS6594-Q1 devices - the power resources would more than cover the needs of the AM243x. You can find the datasheet here www.ti.com/lit/gpn/tps6594-q1 and for the safety documentation, you will need to request access to the secure folder by filling in the form here https://www.ti.com/secureresources/TPS6594-LP8764-FUNCTIONAL-SAFETY-DOCUMENTS (as it's only available under NDA) but we provide detailed FMEDA calculation spreadsheets using both SN29500 FIT model and IEC62380 FIT model. There are also many additional documents in the same folder such as safety manual, safety analysis report, pin FMA, etc.
