Hi Ken,

The M0L2228 has an LCD controller than can directly drive an LCD using COM and SEG signals, so no other devices should be needed between the display and the MCU. I'd recommend looking at Chapter 20 of the TRM (https://www.ti.com/lit/slau847) to ensure the possible operating modes meet your needs.
