I am trying to use UART5 of AM263P4 launchpad and configured it using System Configuration to use the pins J1.3 and J1.4 which are UART5 Tx and Rx pins. After configuring ,on checking the voltage levels at U54 UART/EPWM mux sel pin (1) It is high (3.2v) and UART/EPWM MUX EN pin is low , which means EPWM is getting configured even though i am trying to configure it as UART5 Tx and Rx pins.

How to resolve this?

Hi Rapeti,

SysConfig will not set the mux routing, it only sets the AM263P4 device pinmux.

In order to set the select and output enable pins of the MUX, you need to set the IO expander U63 outputs accordingly.

This can also be done in sysconfig:

Ensure you have the latest AM263Px MCU+ SDK (10.02) downloaded
Open up SysConfig 1.23.0
Under the Software tab, scroll down to TI Board Drivers and add the ioexp
Ensure the following configurations are selected:
Set both the Enable and Select pins to LOW
Re-compile and load your code to the AM263P4.

I am using System config (1.23 version) only but i am not getting the IO expander option to setup.

"I have followed the recommended procedure for accessing the UART pins and have attached the code snippets I used for UART5 TX and RX in external loopback mode. However, data transmission is not working as expected. Could you please check if there are any mistakes in my implementation and suggest corrections?"

Hi,

Apologies it got dropped off our radar due to some internal debugs,

1. Can you please share what exact failures you observe?

2. Do you see any specific asserts or failres

3. Does any read or write specifically fail?

4. In application, you have a handle named, gUartHandle, can you try to compare the configuration for UART0 (Working case) and UART5 (non working case) just before initiating a transaction (after configuration and before actual UART transaction), and also share the same with TI for review.

The above code i am trying to execute in Uart_echback_example i.e I have added UART5 and written TX only for UART5 as in the above code and removed the data TX code given for UART0. I am placing the data in UART5 tx register , but I cannot observe the voltage levels on the pin. So i am assuming as data i snot getting transmitted. If this is the reason is there any configuration mistakes? or anything I have to add?. Attached the snapshots of the UART0 (given default ) and UART5( set by me) configuration.

Also, just to confirm, the pins you probe to see the UART5 signals are J1/J3, PIN 3 and PIN4 right? And once you configure the PinMux, you have re-build the application right?

Yes , These are the pins I used.

Hi Rapeti,

Do you run into any build issues when you configure UART5 and the IO-expander as shared by Brennan?

I see that when I configure the IO expander settings, I get a MACRO redefinition error in ti_board_open_close.h. I believe this is a bug, I would be surprised if you did not have this issue. I am using AM263Px v10.02.00.15 with syscfg 1.23.0 (same as you)

Even I am checking the voltage levels at the pin 1 (374mv)and 15(454mv) of U54 .

I see the UART Transactions fail for any other UART instances than the default UART0. Let me debug further and get back with findings.

I do see some signals on J1/J3 Pin 3 and Pin 4 when I use UART5 on AM263Px-LP

The UART Console logs will come up only on UART0, may I know how exactly are you testing UART5 in your case?

Will this code only work if we connect UART5 tx and UART5 rx i.e if we short J3 and J4 pins. If I didn't short them , I observed no data is being transmitted.

Hi Rapeti,

I haven't directly short(ed) them using a single jumper. In my case I use a Logic Analyser to probe two pins (UART5_TX and UART5_RX). Not sure if the logic analyser actually shorts the two pins i'm using internally.

But one good thing is, now you are able to see the data.

Brennan Hartigan, are you aware of any requirement to Short the pins to see the data?

Yes Shaunak, thanks for the support.

Even after removing the receive functionality and keeping only the transmit logic inside an infinite while loop (as per the project you provided), I observed the following behavior:

When the TX and RX pins are shorted, data is transmitted successfully and can be observed on the oscilloscope.
However, when the short is removed, no data is transmitted.
