Greetings!

We are new to working with the MSPM0G3107-Q1 microcontroller.

We would like to know if we can use a 20 MHz crystal with the MSPM0G3107-Q1 (Package: LQFP-64) on the HFXT input.

Proposed Crystal Part Numbers:

CTS Corporation – 403C11A20M
TXC Corporation – 7M20 000MEEQ
(Specs: 20.000 MHz, 10 pF load capacitance, ±30 ppm, 3.2 × 2.5 mm, RoHS compliant)

Additionally, we would like to confirm:

Is it mandatory to use an external LFXT for low-frequency applications, or can the internal oscillator suffice?

Hi,

You can use a crystal in the 4-48MHz range --> your 20MHz selection should work, but make sure to choose the load capacitors correctly: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaa322d/slaa322d.pdf?ts=1749844928024&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.google.com%252F

Also choose the correct HFXTRSEL bit value

It is not mandatory to use an external LFXT. What else can you tell me about your application?

Hi Mattew,

Thank you for your response and for the helpful information regarding crystal selection and configuration.

Could you clarify how to determine the appropriate load capacitor values for the selected 20MHz crystal?
Regarding the HFXT configuration—do you have any recommendations or common pitfalls to avoid during setup?

As for the application, is collecting the data on sci and transmitt on CAN and vice versa.

Hi,

2) Higher frequencies will use more power, so you can choose what frequency your application requires while balancing power requirements.
