AM2432: User need dual core to realize ethercat

Part Number: AM2432
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM2431, AM2434

Tool/software:

Hi,

Let me confirm about following document.
https://www.ti.com/lit/an/sprach6e/sprach6e.pdf

According to this document, you describe following figure.

According to this figure, it seems that user need at least dual core to realize industrial communication like Ethercat.
Is my understanding correct ?
Is it difficult to realize industrial communication solution only using single core ?

Best Regards,

No, that's not correct. You can run EtherCAT SubDevice stack and example on single R5F. That image is just a representative example of AM64 running Linux application and R5F implementing EtherCAT SubDevice or any other supported communication protocol function.

AM243x INDUSTRIAL COMMUNICATIONS SDK: EtherCAT SubDevice Demos This example is running on R5FSS0-0

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.

The background of this question is below.

    * You do not release "E" and "F" version for only single core device of AM243x.

As I checked your parts number, AM2432 and AM2434 have suffix "E" and "F" device. However, you do not release suffix "F" device for AM2431.
Some customer want to use this device as only industrial communication micon.
So, in that case, we want to use AM2431 because this is lowest price.
However, when I checked above URL, I thought the reason you can not release suffix "F" version is due to dual core limitation.

But, according to your reply, user can implement industrial protocol stack for single core device as well.
So, do you have plan to release suffix "E" or suffix "F" version for AM2431 same as AM2432 and AM2434 ?

    Best Regards,
