MSPM0C1104: C-Gang vs MSP-Gang

Part Number: MSPM0C1104
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP-GANG, C-GANG

Tool/software:

Hi,

My customer has been trying to order the MSP-GANG, but it appears to have been discontinued. I understand the C-Gang should be it's appropriate replacement, however they were utilizing a feature from MSP-GANG where the binary is stored on the unit and it could then be flashed away from a computer.

I understand the C-Gang has a stand-alone mode, does this indicate it does not need to be connected to a computer and can perform this same function?

  • Hi Abigail,

That's my understanding, but let me confirm this.

  • Thanks for checking!

  • Hi Abigail,

Here's a more detailed breakdown.  It appears both support standalone programming.  The GANG uses micro-SD card, whereas the C-GANG has 120MB or memory.
    MSP-GANG:

    • Versatile: Can be used with a PC or in standalone mode with an SD card.
    • Flexible: Offers various programming modes, including interactive, from image, and from script.
    • JTAG and BSL: Supports JTAG and BSL communication protocols.
    • GUI: Features a PC-side GUI for configuration, programming, and testing.
    • Software: Requires the MSP-GANG-SOFTWARE package for full functionality.
    C-GANG:
    • Lower Cost: A more affordable option for gang programming.
    • Limited Capacity: Programs up to six devices at once.
    • MSP430 and MSPM0 Support: Compatible with MSP430 and MSPM0 devices.
    • Standalone Programming: Primarily designed for standalone programming, though it can also be connected to a PC.
    • Software: Requires the C-GANG programming too
