AM2612-Q1: AM261 OSPI questions

Part Number: AM2612-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM2612

Tool/software:

Hi experts,

My customer is evaluating AM2612 and he has following questions. Could you help to check it?

1. In AM261, for "eXecute In Place (XIP) support" can execute from external Flash. If customer wants to use 2 OSPI and connect 2 OSPI to 2 separated flash, can OSPI1 run flash code with XIP and OSPI2 just read content from flash at the same time?

2. I see that OSPI can also support SDR and DDR? Does it mean OSPI can also extent SDRAM and DDRAM, not only flash?

Best Regards

Kita

  • Hi Kita,

    Thank you for the query!!

AM261x has 2 separate OSPI interfaces (i.e, 2 ospi controllers). Both has separate sets of configurations registers and data regions.

In AM261, for "eXecute In Place (XIP) support" can execute from external Flash. If customer wants to use 2 OSPI and connect 2 OSPI to 2 separated flash, can OSPI1 run flash code with XIP and OSPI2 just read content from flash at the same time?

From what I am understanding, the use case is to connect

    1. FLASH0 in OSPI0_CS0 for Boot purposes /XIP
    2. FLASH1 in OSPI1_CS0 for data reads

Yes this is a standard use-case supported in AM261x.

I see that OSPI can also support SDR and DDR? Does it mean OSPI can also extent SDRAM and DDRAM, not only flash?

No, OSPI controller doesn't natively support SDRAM and DDRAM. Support is present only for Serial NOR flashes , Serial NAND flashes, Serial PSRAM

    Thanks & Regards,
