AM2432: Design EtherCAT interface using AM2432

Hi,

You can run EtherCAT and EtherNet/IP devices demo from Industrial Communications SDK on AM2432 using 2 instances of ICSS (Industrial Communications Sub System), 1 each for EtherCAT and EtherNet/IP (total of 4 ports), with the following design parameters:

EtherCAT:
ICSS Instance: ICSSG0
PRU Cores: ICSSG0_PRU_0, ICSSG0_PRU_1
Host Core: R5_1_0
PHY Interface: MII

EtherNet/IP:
ICSS Instance: ICSSG1
PRU Cores: ICSSG1_PRU_0, ICSSG1_RTU_PRU_0, ICSSG1_TX_PRU_0, ICSSG1_PRU_1, ICSSG1_RTU_PRU_1, ICSSG1_TX_PRU_1
Host Core: R5_0_0
PHY Interface: RGMII

EtherNet/IP example runs on R5F0_0 host core and ICSSG1 PRU cores. For EtherCAT Beckhoff Demo, we have examples based on ICSSG0 (running on R5F_1_0 host core.

On an additional note, TI offers EtherCAT TI Stack Implementation which provides additional stack features added on top of the Beckhoff SubDevice Stack. Documentation can be found here: EtherCAT SubDevice Demos 

Note: On EVMs supported by TI (AM64X-EVM, AM243X-EVM), it is not possible to use PRU_ICSSG0, as the PRG0_RGMII1/MII1 and PRG0_RGMII0/MII0 pins are not connected to Ethernet PHYs. This example would require a dedicated custom board to use the PRU_ICSSG0 instance of ICSSG peripheral. Refer to Ethernet PRU_ICSSG instance-0 (PRU_ICSSG0) Usage Guide. In the documentation, you will find steps to configure ICSSG0 usage for EtherCAT TI Stack Demos.

Apologies. I got confused with the above message.

Are you trying to run EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT simultaneously? If that's not the case, then you should be able to use the same PHY for EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT.

Make sure the PHY chosen for both the implementation supports all EtherCAT functionalities.

    I have see LP-am2432 EVM design ,which is good reference for achieve  EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT simultaneously in a same PCBA,we want to share a same PCBA to achieve  EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT，This can reduce BOM costs.
