AM2432: Cortex-R5F and Benefits

Part Number: AM2432

Tool/software:

Hi Expert,

The ARM Cortex-R5F in the AM2422/6421 is labeled R5FSS0_CORE0 and R5FSS1_CORE0.
1. Does this mean that the ARM Cortex-R5F in the AM2422/6421 is two independent MCUs? Based on the way R5FSS0_CORE0 and R5FSS1_CORE0 are written, it seems they are two independent MCUs.
2. Can these two ARM Cortex-R5Fs be used as redundant components of each other?

1. Besides price, what features make the TI AM24x chipset worth choosing? FuSa is the basics, but could you please share any other advantages?

Thanks

Daniel

  • Hi Daniel,

    1. Yes, you are correct. There are two independent MCUs.

    2. No, these two R cores cannot be used as redundant components of each other. We don't support lockstep mode in AM243/AM64

And to answer your last question, AM243x is an MCU worth choosing because of its R5F cores provide up to 800MHz which enables real-time determinism for control loops and motor control. It also has extensive industrial networking capabilities with the PRU-ICSSG (Programmable Real-time Unit - Industrial Communication Subsystem). This subsystem supports networking protocol stacks like EtherCAT, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, etc. and also support multi-protocol. AM243x has up to 2MB on-chip SRAM w/ ECC, external DDR support, secure boot and cryptography accelerators. This chipset is used extensively in factory automation and motor drives applications.
