MSPM0G3518: VREF pin usage

Part Number: MSPM0G3518
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG

Tool/software:

Hi team,

I hope you are doing good!

Can you please help me to understand the correct pin connections for the VREF module?

1) If I use the external VREF I need the decoupling capacitor between VREF+ and VREF-, correct? Can I also just use VREF+ and take VREF- for a differnet signal? From my understanding this is not recommended but in the Sysconfig tool I can select that just VREF+ is enabled and VREF- is not and can be used for a different signal. Which approach is correct?

2) If I use the internal VREF source, should I connect VREF- to GND?

3) Just for confirmation. If I have the internal VREF mode activated I still need the decoupling capacitor right?

Looking forward to your answer.

Best regards

Felix

  • Hi Felix,

When using the internal VREF or external VREF it is required to have a 1uF capacitor on the VREF+ pin. You don't need the VREF- pin but I do recommend it because it can improve analog performance by reducing ground noise on the Analog ground plane.

For the DAC or ADC you would need to select the VSSA pin for the ground connection. DAC12.CTL1.REFSN = 1, ADC12.MEMCTRL[x].VRSEL

There are a couple of options for the VRSEL on the ADC, sysconfig can help take care of all of these nuances.

    Regards,
    Luke
