AM2432: Inquiry regarding AM2432 OSPI Booting

Part Number: AM2432
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDS243EVM

Tool/software:

Hello TI Engineering Team,

We are currently testing OSPI booting on our AM2432 development platform, using an IS25LX256 flash memory. We have successfully achieved booting in both 1s-1s-1s and 8d-8d-8d modes, and we've confirmed that both the bootloader and our application are running correctly.

After writing these two items to the flash memory:

  • Bootloader: Sbl_ospi bootloader (tiimage)

  • Application: hs_fs (custom LED blink)

We confirmed the application runs (the LED blinks) by setting the OSPI boot mode and powering on the board.

To resolve initial issues, we referred to the AM263PX EVM, which uses a similar driver. We modified the Vpp/W# pin setting of our IS25LX flash and changed the input clock frequency from 133MHz to 100MHz, following recommendations found on the TI E2E forum.

While our boot process is now successful, we have a couple of questions for further verification.

  1. We based our system configuration on E2E forum recommendations. Does this configuration alone guarantee the stability of OSPI booting, or are there additional parameters or test procedures we should perform?

  2. Could you please confirm if the S28HS512TGABHM010 (Infineon, +1.8Vcc) flash used on the TMDS243EVM has been validated for compatibility with AM243x? We are considering using this flash for an upcoming board revision.

Thank you for your time and guidance.

Best Regards,

Jack

  • Hi

According to the AM243x OSPI, QSPI Flash Selection Guide (Rev. A) document, the IS25LX256 series is not on the list of Compatible Flash Device series. Could you check if there will be any issues using it with the AM243x?

I'd like to confirm two points regarding flash memory compatibility with the AM243x:

    1. Is the IS25LX256 likely to be compatible with the AM243x, even though it does not appear on the official compatibility list?

    2. Has the S28HS512TGABHM010 been verified for compatibility with the AM243x?

    3. In addition, we've confirmed that the IS25LX256 flash works for both booting and application execution. Could you please provide guidance on what else we should review to ensure its stability?

    Thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Jack

  • Jack,

Is the IS25LX256 likely to be compatible with the AM243x, even though it does not appear on the official compatibility list?

This list is for reference only. OSPI/QSPI flashes can behave differently due to lack of industry standard and not all are compatible, but we do have an FAQ available here to hopefully guide selection based on application:  [FAQ] OSPI FAQ for Sitara/Jacinto devices

Has the S28HS512TGABHM010 been verified for compatibility with the AM243x?

Yes, this has been used on the EVM and no known incompatibilities exist.

In addition, we've confirmed that the IS25LX256 flash works for both booting and application execution. Could you please provide guidance on what else we should review to ensure its stability?

This is a good data point to prove compatibility and likely things will work as expected. Common next checks are for robustness of system design which typically include power cycle testing, testing across multiple boards, and running across expected use case operating conditions (temperature).

    Thanks,

    Chris
