RM48 USB Stick Demos and CAN example

Hello,

I've just started with the RM48 USB Stick, installed the software on a Win7 64-bit machine, and I encountered the following problems:

1. General usability of the Hercules Demo Suite:

As per previous forum thread, I launched the demo suite in Win XP compatibility mode. When launched in this mode, if I try to autodetect my Hercules module, I'm getting an error dialog that states "No installations of Flash 470 were detected". If I skip the autodetection and manually choose my module, the demos never attempt to flash, they simply try to run.

If I launch the demo suite without WinXP compatibility mode, I can successfully autodetect my USB stick, and I can successfully flash any of the provided demos, but when I run them, there's no communication between the UI and the code running on the micro. If I start a serial terminal on the com port associated with the USB Stick at 19200 baud, I can talk to the Hercules board and firmware version is reported as 1.2.

In conclusion, in order to run a demo I have to first launch the demo suite in native Win7 mode to flash the program, and then launch it again in XP compatibility mode in order to run it and be able to control the demo from its UI. This is kind of a hassle, so I was wondering what can I do to be able to flash and run a demo without having to restart the demo suite.

2. The CAN Reader demo does not produce the results I expected:

Actually I'm not 100% sure what the CAN Reader demo is supposed to do since I couldn't find a document that describes it, but I can infer that it displays the contents of any CAN messages that are being sent over the CAN network by an external device. To test this, I wired CAN_L, CAN_H and Gnd to a Systec USB-CAN module. I did not include a CAN termination resistor as there seems to be one already on the Hercules board. Using the PCanView application that comes with the Systec module, I am sending a CAN message with extended frame at 1 Hz. I set the speed of my CAN devices at 1 Mbit/s. Running the CAN Reader demo, I can see the UI displays a table, but the table is empty which leads me to believe that the RM48 micro is not receiving the CAN messages I am sending from my Systec module. I was wondering if anyone has successfully used the CAN Reader demo to receive messages from an external CAN device, and at what speed they ran their CAN bus.

Thanks,

Marius
