AM2434: Pin compatibility between AM6442 and AM2434

Part Number: AM2434
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG

Our customer wants to implement the following two types of products interchangeably on the same board design.

 - AM6442BSFGHAALV
 - AM2434BSFFHIALV

Since these products are pin-compatible, they should be interchangeable on the same board design as long as the same signals are used.

Is my understanding correct?

The major difference between these products is whether the functional safety feature is enabled. Only the AM2434 has the functional safety feature enabled.

Does the difference in functional safety features affect compatibility?

I tried using the SysConfig tool to check their compatibility. By enabling the same signals for each and comparing the generated CSV files, I was able to confirm that they are completely identical.

Is this comparison method correct for verifying compatibility?

The pins displayed on the GUI for AM2434 appear to be incorrect. Specifically, pins related to Power and Ground are not shown.

Is this a bug in the SysConfig tool?

Best regards,

Daisuke

  • Hi Daisuke,

Does the difference in functional safety features affect compatibility?

I will check this internally and update.

Is this comparison method correct for verifying compatibility?

The above method looks okay. The recommended way is to check pin compatibility by referring to device datasheet.

Is this a bug in the SysConfig tool?

I have checked this and it looks like the device data for AM243x device is missing in Sysconfig for those pins.

    Regards,

    Tushar

  • Hello Daisuke,

In addition to what Tushar suggested, we can confirm that both devices are pin-to-pin compatible (ALV package 17.2 mm × 17.2 mm, 0.8 mm pitch, 441-pin [Lidded] Flip-Chip Ball Grid Array (FCBGA)).

The main differences are listed below:

    • AM64x includes a Dual-Core Cortex-A53 cluster, while AM243x is focused on real-time processing with only R5F and M4F cores.
    • Additional cryptographic support and OSPI encryption are available only on AM243x.
    • AM64x is Automotive-grade qualified, while AM243x supports Industrial-grade qualification.

If the design will use both devices (AM64x and AM243x) as a population option, please ensure proper power supply design. For example, the VDD_CORE power supply must be set to 0.85 V only—0.75 V operation is not supported when AM243x is used.

Please refer to section 8.1.1.1 Power Supply Designs in the device datasheet, and especially the application notes listed there for proper power design guidance.

Hope this additional information helps you,

    thanks,

    Alex
