Hi,

I am using AM2432 with the Industrial SDK 11.00.00.08 and the Profinet Stack.

We are interested in connecting our devices in series, and we would like our devices to propagate PTP packets generated by a third device. The packets are not needed by the device itself, but by other devices connected to it.

I have checked and it seems that PTP packets are already being forwarded from one interface to another. Is there any additional modification or software implementation that needs to be implemented to support the PTP protocol? Or should it already be supported?

    Thank you for your inquiry about PTP packet propagation through the Profinet devices.

    To better understand your specific requirements, could you please clarify:

    1.  What role should the Profinet device play in the PTP network?
      1. Should they function as transparent clocks (measuring and accounting for forwarding delays)?
      2. Should they operate as boundary clocks (synchronizing to the master and serving as masters to downstream devices)?
      3. Or do you simply need basic forwarding of PTP packets without any PTP awareness or modification?

    2. What level of timing accuracy does your application require between endpoints?

    These details will help us determine if any additional implementation is needed beyond basic packet forwarding.

    Hi Andrea,

    The Profinet FWHAL currently does not support PTP packet processing, hence the device cannot function as transparent clock. As this is not a standard feature we support, kindly contact your regional TI sales representative for additional support on this topic.
