AM2434: How to change ".phyTuningOffset" for PHY tuning data in TI SysConfig Tool?

Hello,

I have noticed that TI UniFlash (similar to the OSPI bootloader) stores and works with certain information in the flash memory during application flashing, specifically the PHY tuning data (--operation=flash-phy-tuning-data). The offset for storing these data is currently set to the middle of the flash memory, as defined in the structure generated by TI SysConfig Tool in the Profinet demo project.

TI SysConfig Tool automatically defines and regenerates all these global structures based on its configuration. However, for application-specific reasons, I need to relocate the position where PHY tuning data are stored. Unfortunately, I cannot find any option in TI SysConfig Tool to change this.

Could you please advise how to modify the .phyTuningOffset value in the generated structure using TI SysConfig Tool? Is there a supported way to configure this offset?

Hi Meet,

Thank you for your response and for sharing the FAQ link explaining the purpose of the phy tuning data.
However, you still haven’t clarified why placing exactly 128 bytes in the middle of the memory is considered the optimal location. I would need to store them elsewhere (for example, at the end or closer to the beginning of the flash).

Could you explain the technical reasons behind the recommended placement?

Hi Triska,

The purpose of this offset is to make sure it is defined at a location where no other binary is flashed or overlapped.

Although not recommended to change, but if you see that the last block of the flash is not used by your overall application or end use case, you can change this offset.

The right way to change would be by modifying the function:

Flash_getPhyTuningOffset

Hello,

This function is part of the pre-compilled MCU+ SDK, located in "board.am243x.r5f.ti-arm-clang.<release|debug>.lib".

1) I'm not allowed to recompile any TI SDK library (it must remain unchanged).
2) The implementation is fine in fact, as shown below...

However, I would like to set the "phyTuningOffset" value manually. Unfortuinately, I cannot do this because it is generated, defined, and overwritten by TI SysConfig tool.

Do you have any alternative solution or suggestion?
Or how to override this function in pure C language?
