AM2431: AM243x Sitara™︎ Microcontrollers documentation upgraded

Part Number: AM2431

When the AM243x Sitara™ Microcontrollers documentation was upgraded from Revision G to Revision H, the following three descriptions were deleted from the "Security" section under "1 Feature":

  • Secure storage support

  • On-the-Fly encryption support for the OSPI interface in XIP mode

  • Networking security support for data (Payload) encryption/authentication via a packet-based hardware cryptographic engine

I want to confirm that there have been no actual changes to these three functionalities, and the alteration is merely in the way they are described. Is that correct?

  • Hello Qiao

In general the updates on the datasheet do reflect accurate what is supported in hardware and for some cases it also tries to articulate what can or cannot be supported in the software.

The removal of these features from the datasheet is intentional and represent the offering more accurately. If you have any specific concerns and/or use-cases that get impacted by this feel free to follow up.

    1) Secure Storage: There is no on chip NVM memory on AM24 for this function.

See example response: (+) AM625-Q1: TTE Secure storage - Processors forum - Processors - TI E2E support forums

On AM64, which is essentially AM24 + 2x A53, secure storage can be offered through OPTEE in Linux.Secure storage — OP-TEE documentation documentation

No such equivalent offering in MCU+ SDK /RTOS.

    2) The device does not support OTFA and XIP in general is tricky on OSPI due to the need of PHY tuning. It will be good to understand your specific use/case requirements on OSPI and why you need XIP etc?  You can always store an encrypted image on the flash and it can be decrypted on the device.

See details on PHY Tuning in the MCU+ SDK

AM243x MCU+ SDK: OSPI High Level Driver

    3) This is usually done in software. If you have any specific requirements please let us know and we can guide on what is offered in context of TI SDK etc.

    Regards
