EK-TM4C123GXL: New Stellaris ICDI driver issue, "requires an interactive window stations"

Hi Experts,

We have been using the TI Tiva Launchpad TM4C123 for the 12th year now. It's been a great platform for teaching.

This term, for the first time, multiple students are reporting problems installing the ICDI drivers on their computers. We had no issues last semester. Their laptops are 1-3 years old running Windows 11, so I suspect it's due to a recent Windows update.

After browsing to the drivers in Device Manager, as the drivers begin to load, an error pops up "This operation requires an itneractive window station" as it attempted to install "Stellaris ICDI JTAG/SWD Interface".

We are using the latest drivers off the website (dated 2014).

Could you please take a look and advise?

Hello,

Are the students manually installing the driver or is Windows automatically selecting a driver? Seems like there is some user input that is required.

Customer responded:

I tried it myself on one of their laptops. My usual method is to:
- Find the ICDI device in Device Manager
- Right click and select to install driver
- Not let it attempt to search automatically, instead I browse to the driver folder (downloaded and unzipped from the TI website) and let it search for the driver there. The rest is usually automatic.

It worked for years, now we are getting that pop up.

Is this not a common issue? I know many faculty colleagues use the same board (notably the book author, Jon Valvano at UT Austin). I suspected TI had been getting multiple reports of this issue.

Can the driver be installed manually without using the device manager? I'm wondering if there is some popup not being triggered that is new on Windows 11.
