TMS320F280039C-Q1: generate the hex image

Hi all,

I would like to fill the unused addresses between sections with 0xFF when generating the hex file, so that all sections are connected into one contiguous block. However, after using the "image" and "fill" parameters, I get this error. How can I resolve this?

Hi Jenney,

Could you please attach the error that you are getting? Also, if you are using the HEX2000 utility command line tool, then you need to include the -image parameter in your command file before using the fill parameter.

Hi Jenney,

Based on your email, I see that you are already using the --image parameter but you are getting a --image requires ROM directive error. Could you please refer to the example ROM directive in 17.4. The ROMS Directive — TI Arm Clang Compiler Tools User's Guide (refer to section 17.4.2) and add this to your parameters and try? This should resolve the error. You need to modify the ROMS directive to cover the necessary memory range that includes all section load addresses and boot-loader table addresses.

Hi Jenney,

You need to create a separate hex utility command file. Follow these steps.

1. Create a new file app_hex.cmd

2. Include the ROMS directive in that.

Let's say your code occupies one contiguous flash area and you want to fill the unused area with 0xFF, then your app_hex.cmd file will look something like this. (get actual example from https://software-dl.ti.com/codegen/docs/tiarmclang/compiler_tools_user_guide/compiler_manual/hex_utility_description/the-roms-directive-stdz0799222.html#stdz0799222)

-o app_hex.hex (name of your hex file)

--image

--memwidth 16

ROMS

{

APP_FLASH : origin = 0x000004000, len = 0x2000, romwidth =8, fill = 0xFF, files= {rom4000.b0, rom4000.b1} //change this based on the memory address of your application

}

3. Save this app_hex.cmd file.

4. Run the hex2000 tool by using the app_hex.cmd file.

5. Navigate to the tool directory (likely C:\ti\ccs_version\ccs\tools\compiler\ti-cgt-c2000_22.6.3.LTS\bin) and run hex2000 app_hex.cmd.

6. The correct hex file should get generated at app_hex.hex (change this to the name of your hex file)
