AM261-SOM-EVM: Demo and benchmark for TSN performance in daisy chain

Part Number: AM261-SOM-EVM

Hi Experts,

My customer is evaluating TSN to replace EtherCAT, they have concerns on below item:

  • If TSN supports daisy chain topology?(Same as EtherCAT)
  • The latency and bandwidth TSN can support on AM261.

Do we have any demo or benchmark data to show customer?

Regards,

Hang

  • Hi Hang,

will share the example and benchmark with you later today.

  • Hi Hang,

    1. Yes, the AM261x device has two ethernet ports, so it is possible to daisy chain them. The invite link shared over email for the demo is for AM261x launch-pad with the following features enabled in a daisy chain configuration:

    - InterVLAN in CPSW for hardware loopback of packets.
    - IEEE802.1Q VLAN for prioritisation of traffic into 8 different classes (Priority-0 to Priority-7)
    - IEEE802.3br (IET)
    - IEEE801.1AS (GPTP)
    - IEEE802.1Qbv (EST)

Please note that the EST feature is untested and thus commented out from the application. The .zip contains details on how to test the application as well as the application itself.

    2. After the synchronization between two nodes is complete, the sync jitter stays below 45 ns, which means at any point of time after synchronization, the difference between the transmitter and receiver clock would be less than 45 ns.

The CPSW hardware switching benchmarks are attached below:

The CPSW supports both 100M and 1G interfaces. The actual bandwidth depends on the overhead of software involved.
