AM2434: EnDat 3 development roadmap

Part Number: AM2434

Dear TI experts,

we have successfully tested the EnDat 3 master from the Motor Control SDK (release 2025.00.00.06). As part of our current product development, we need to consider which position interface we are chosing (EnDat 2.2 or EnDat 3). With the current limitations, the EnDat 3 master can not be used within our product. We are intereseted in the development roadmap regarding the following features:

  • 25 Mbit mode
  • Multi channel support
  • Bus support

The first two are crucial for us, bus support would be nice to have. Could you give is a rough estimation, when these features will be available?

We also faced some issues regarding the treatment of errors within the EnDat firmware. If an error results, e.g. during encoder initialization, the software seems to be stuck and a reboot is required. Do you plan any improvements on the error handling within the PRU firmware?

Thanks alot in advance!

Best regards
Christian

  • Hi Christian,

Thanks for sharing test results on successfully running ENDAT3 application using MCSDK2025. For the features you listed, we are planning to release those in September 2026 MCSDK 2026 release. Let me check on error handling thing you mentioned and will update you soon.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Rajul,

sounds good! Thank you very much.
Looking forward to your information on the error handling issue.

    Best regards

Yes, the current firmware does not support a timeout feature if the encoder is not connected or there is no data on the wire, and it gets stuck continuously waiting for data on the RX pin. Currently, this feature is supported in the driver but not in the firmware.

We have plans for this, and it will be available in the next motor control release.
