AM2634: Guide for Using IAR Toolchain in VS Code-based CCS and Safety RTOS Recommendations for Functional Safety

Part Number: AM2634

Hello TI E2E Team,

I am currently working on a robot controller product based on the AM2634 series and would like to ask for guidance on the following topics:

1. **IAR Toolchain Integration with CCS (VS Code)**
   - We are interested in using the IAR compiler instead of TI Clang within the latest VS Code-based Code Composer Studio environment.
   - Could you please provide a developer guide or reference documentation on how to integrate and use the IAR toolchain within CCS?
   - Specifically, we would like to understand:
     - Project setup and build configuration using IAR
     - Debugging support (if any) within CCS when using IAR
     - Any limitations or recommended workflows

2. **Safety RTOS for Functional Safety**
   - For functional safety requirements, we prefer to use a Safety-certified RTOS instead of FreeRTOS.
   - Could you recommend supported or validated Safety RTOS options for AM2634 (e.g., SafeRTOS, Azure RTOS ThreadX Safety, or others)?
   - Additionally, we would appreciate guidance on:
     - Availability of safety documentation (e.g., safety manuals, FMEDA, diagnostics libraries)
     - Reference designs or examples using a Safety RTOS
     - Any TI-supported ecosystem partners for functional safety solutions

Our target application includes industrial robot control, and functional safety compliance is an important requirement.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Best regards,
Jack Cha

We do not have IAR integration done on AM263x.

Please refer to AM261x SDK as reference for AM2634 port.

Apart from SafeRTOS you have option to work with Greenhills safety rtos option.

The SafeRTOS integration is something wittenstein will support.
