MSPM0G3519-Q1: Ceramic resonator compatibility

Customers considers using this ceramic resonator with the M0G3519-Q1 MCU.

Could you please assess the compatibility of both devices, suggest the schematic with any resistor or load capacitor that may be needed, and a layout?

    As long as the specs of the ceramic resonator are within our specs, the MSPM0 should be able to support it.

    The customer can find some references in the following document regarding the capacitor recommendation for load capacitance (the document still applies for MSPM0 devices, and crystal higher than 32KHz)

    There's also the schematics for the crystal oscillators in the LP-MSPM0G3519 userguide

    Thank you. The resonator spec says its built-in load capacitance is 33 pF ±20%. Is that OK? I do not see any requirement in our MCU datasheet.

  • Hello Diego, thank you , we understand that the IC can support a ceramic resonator. Since we are implementing CAN communication at full speed, which is the better choice: a crystal or a ceramic resonator?

    The MSPM0 does not have a specific preference; the choice between a ceramic or crystal resonator is up to your team's evaluation for your system. My team can provide a general recommendation if we receive more details regarding the application.
    Additionally, the load capacitance is not a specification that the MSPM0 requires to operate correctly. However, attaching the correct capacitors to the crystal is important to ensure that the accuracy of the crystal or ceramic resonator is maintained.
