TM4C1294KCPDT: LM Flash Programmer UART Programming Fails

Part Number: TM4C1294KCPDT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MAX3221

Hi,

I have a customer attempting to program a custom TM4C1294KCPDT board via UART.

They have reported the following error:

IMG_3103 (002).jpeg

I have confirmed the following:

  1. They are able to program via JTAG
  2. They are unable program empty MCUs via UART
  3. Their RS232 circuit is connected to UART0
  4. MAX3221 transceiver is used
  5. RBIAS is present
  6. They have confirmed sucessful data reception with the RS232 circuit using a monitoring tool

Since JTAG programming is functional, the RS232 transceiver has been validated in the application, UART0 is used for communication, and the issue is observed even with blank devices, I would have expected the TM4C1294 ROM bootloader to detect UART0 and allow programming.

What would you consider the most likely causes of UART programming failure under these conditions?
Are there any known issues, bootloader requirements, hardware considerations, or debug steps that could explain why a blank TM4C1294KCPDT device is not accepting firmware downloads via UART?
Based on the information provided, do you have any recommendations for additional checks or potential fixes that we should investigate?

Thanks,
Michael
