AM2434: AM243x Launchpad ECAP sysconfig issues

Part Number: AM2434
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SYSCONFIG

In the MCU SDK 12.0.0 driver examples there is a loopback example for ECAP.

In the sysconfig for ECAP it only gives me an option to use pin MCAN1_RX or TX for ECAP1 & ECAP2.

However in the example it uses pin GPMC0_GP3, which actually links to EHPWM0 Channel A when i enable that in Sysconfig.

My question really is, is there any pins on the launchpad that map to ECAP which i can use inside of the module?

I can't seem to find any evidence of this working or any other examples

Thanks in Advance.

  • Hi Adam Hunter,

Please expect some delay in response.

  • Hi Adam Hunter,

Thank you for your query !

Indeed according to the AM243x Datasheet / Table, Pin Attributes,  the GPMC0_AD3 (V21) pin of the AM243x microcontroller has multiplexed only the industrial timers system related  EHRPWM0_A output signal which does not have ECAP functionality but is an ePWM output. So mentioning the EHRPWM0_A in context of an ECAP software config. example seems to be some typo error.

In the sysconfig for ECAP it only gives me an option to use pin MCAN1_RX or TX for ECAP1 & ECAP2.

Following the AM243x Datasheet / Section, Pin Attributes, indeed the  signals ECAP1_IN_APWM_OUT and ECAP2_IN_APWM_OUT are multiplexed on the AM243x pins MCAN1_TX (ALX package ball B14) and MCAN1_RX (ALX package ball A15) respectively.

The LP_AM243 EVM has the AM243x pins MCAN1_TX and MCAN1_RX almost directly accessible:

According to the sprr433d / PROC109E3 (rev.3) schematic of the LP AM243, the pins MCAN1_TX / MCAN1_RX and their multiplexed (MuxMode=0x2) ECAP1_IN_APWM_OUT / ECAP2_IN_APWM_OUT  eCAP inputs are mapped to the eQEP2_A_LS and eQEP2_B_LS lines respectively. These signals through the direction auto-detect Level shifter -U46: TXB0106RBYR are the 3.3V translated version of the eQEP2_A and eQEP2_B  5V "inputs"  available onto the pins 1 and 2 of the  LP_AM243 connector J21:

Considering no hardware modifications on the EVM you should only check if it is possible to power supply the generator of your measured pulse sequences from same power supply (or lower voltage derived on same power supply) LP_AM243x EVM VSYS_5V0 which is available on the pin4 of the J21 connector. This is strongly recommended keeping in mind that the AM243x ECAP1 and ECAP2 inputs are non-fail safe.

I hope this helps you clarify !
