AM2612: TIDEP-01032 migration roadmap and performance evaluation for single-motor control

Part Number: AM2612
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDEP-01032, AM2434, , LP-AM261, BP-AM2BLDCSERVO, AM2634

Hi TI Team,

I have a couple of questions regarding TIDEP-01032 (which currently uses AM2434) and its potential application on the AM2612:

  1. Roadmap for AM261x Version of TIDEP-01032: Is there any future roadmap to provide a version of TIDEP-01032 based on the AM2612? (We noticed in the LP-AM261 schematic Rev A, page 19, that MUX selection settings are designed to support the BP-AM2BLDCSERVO). If there is no official plan, we are prepared to port it ourselves, but wanted to check first.

  2. Performance Comparison (AM2612 vs. AM2634 / AM2434): TIDEP-01032 drives 2 motors (using two R5F cores, each running FOC for one motor, and another core handling EtherCAT and CiA402). If our application only needs to drive 1 motor, will the performance of the AM2612 be sufficient compared to the AM2634/AM2434 reference design setup?

Thanks for your guidance!

  • Hi Daniel,

It is great to see you are leveraging the hardware flexibility of the LP-AM261.

    Regarding your questions:

    1. Roadmap for TIDEP-01032 on AM2612
We will add support for this EVM on LP-AM261. However, it's not planned for upcoming quarters.

    2. Performance for Single-Motor Control
The AM2612 is well-equipped for single-motor applications. It features dual 500MHz Arm Cortex-R5F cores, which provide the real-time processing necessary for closed-loop Field Oriented Control (FOC) in very high ISR frequency. Also, AM261 has HW SDFM and won't need PRU to implement it.

    Best regards,
