Problem with nowFlash

When I try to launch the Hercules Safety Demos, a message appears saying that the nowFlash must be installed. The nowFlash 3.41 is installed in C: \ ti\nowFlash and Safety Demos is installed in C: \ Program Files \ Texas Instruments \ Hercules \ Hercules Safety MCU Demos. In the Windows registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Texas Instruments \ nowFlash v3.41 has the value InstallDir pointing to C: \ ti \ nowFlash \ v3.41. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling nowFlash, but the problem persists.

This is an interesting problem. The demo software looks for the nowFlash registry key that you have mentioned, so it should work on your PC. We are working on a new release of the demo software that will hopefully address your problem. Until then I suggest that you try uninstalling and reinstalling the demo software. If you still experience the problem, you can manually program your USB stick or Hercules Development Kit (HDK) board with the demo software using the nowFlash GUI. If the MCU flash memory has the demo software programmed in it, the demo software will not look for nowFlash and you should not receive the error message.

The file that you will need to manually program with nowFlash is located in:

C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\Hercules\Hercules Safety MCU Demos\

If you are using the RM48x USB Stick or HDK you will need to program the 'RM48_Demo_v1_2.out' file located in the directory listed above. (See the nowFlash screen shot below):

After the MCU is programmed, press the 'Power on Reset' (PORRST) button on your board and you should see activity on the LEDs around the MCU. Then try re-running the Hercules Safety Demos on the PC.

If you are using the TMS570LS31x USB Stick or HDK you will need to program the 'TMS570_Demo_v1_2.out' file located in the directory listed above. (See the nowFlash screen shot below):

Hi,

I just followed the steps which you have mentioned above. The MCU was programmed and LEDs blinked as well.

Later I tried to re-run the safety demo on the PC. And it didn't work. It just gave me the same message saying nowFlash is not installed.
How can I proceed ?
Does it has anything to do with System Administrator settings?

You may have to repeat the procedure listed above to manually program the demo software into the MCU's flash memory. If you are running the demo software on a Windows 7 PC you may be able to resolve the problem by running the demo application 'as administrator'. To do this, right click on the 'Hercules Safety MCU Demos' icon located in 'Start -> Programs ->Texas Instruments -> Hercules' and then choose the 'run as administrator' option.
