LM4F23x Observation and question

Hello TI,

I was just looking at the TI website here: http://www.ti.com/mcu/docs/mculuminaryfamilynode.tsp?sectionId=95&tabId=2851&familyId=2061&docCategoryId=10&viewType=mostrecent&paramCriteria=no

I note that only one of the LM4F23x parts is marked as "Active" and the rest are marked as "Preview".  Previously, several parts were marked with "Active" status.

Please comment on this!

Should we be concerned?

Thank you!

Regards,

Dave

  • Thanks for noticing, Dave. This is not a mistake; there was actually a display problem with the previous page version, and several customers thought that many of the LM4F23x devices were fully active and released.

The LM4F23x series is scheduled to be released as full production at the end of May in all packages except the 144-LQFP version, which is scheduled for a September 2012 release. Until the devices are released as "production" they are only available in limited quantities to sample; and not all package versions are available to sample, as you probably know. So until the production release, we need to clearly show that the devices are still in "preview" status.

One way to show sample availability and accurate release status for the LM4F23x devices is to list both the preview version (such as the LM4F232H5QC) and the available sample version (LX4F232H5QC). Look at the "Buy Now" section of the folder. You will see that the sample version is orderable as an "LX4F" device, while the preview version (not available until late May) is identified as an "LM4F" device.

No need to be concerned! You will be able to place orders for the production release devices starting on 25-May, and the sample versions will be discontinued at that time.

If this is not clear, let us know.

    Respectfully,

    Joe

  • Hi Joe,

Thank you for the quick response!  , only the part you mentioned has an "available sample version" listed when drilling down.  It really does not convey confidence in the absence of your explanation.

    Thank you again!

    Regards,

    Dave
