RM48L952: Interfacing MibSPI with McBSP DSP chip

Hi,

Please confirm that the interface "Three Multi-buffered Serial Peripheral Interfaces (MibSPI)" can be used to interface another DSP chip having McBSP interface. Are they compatible to/from interface and timing perspective. Request for YES or NO answer and if they are compatible then direct me to the documentations as well.

Regards,

Lasya

  • Lasya,

The McBSP is designed to handle I2S like & TDM streams usually with a free running bit clock.

This is different from a SPI protocol where the bit clock is only toggled when there is data to be transmitted.

Some TI DSPs have McBSP ports with a feature called CLKSTP (clock stop) but not all do.
If the device that you have in mind supports CLKSTP then you should be able to interface it to a MibSPI.

Note that some of the newer TI DSPs also have SPI ports in addition to McBSPs.  You'll also see

some DSPs with McASP ports.  These McASP similar to McBSP in that their native format is I2S/TDM.

However, these interfaces do not support CLKSTP mode; so would not be a good option.

In any case, the next step would be to identify the specific DSP and check it's capabilities;  either McBSP

with CLKSTP support or an SPI.

    Best Regards,

    Anthony

  • Lasya,
