Reinstallation of Software

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SW-EK-LM4F232

I attended the Stellaris SW-EK-LM4F232 workshop.  Later, I attempted to better familiarise myself with programming but found that after connecting the evaluation board to my notebook, the board no longer functioned as expected.  After several attempts, I have decided to reinstall the software.  I need to know how the previous installation should be removed before doing so.

I have the pre-workshop instructions.  As the software does not appear as a familiar view in Add/Remove Programs, please advise me how to proceed with the correct removal prior to reinstallation.

Would you please explain the sequence of steps that you performed? Would you please explain your observation?

If you are referring to StellarisWare, then you can simply delete the StellarisWare directory from your computer's hard drive. StellarisWare is typically installed in the C:/ drive and it does not modify Windows registry settings during installation. However, if you are referring to LM Flash Programmer or Code Composer Studio, they should be listed in the Windows Add/Remove Program list, and can be uninstalled from there.

Please help me understand the problem you are seeing and if possible provide the details. This will help us identify if you should really be reinstalling the software, or just reprogram the board. Also, that will enable us efficiently debug this problem. Thanks!

  • Greetings Ashish,

Thank you much for your "understated direction" toward the new launchpad.  Much, much improved over its far gaudier predecessor...

  • Hi Ashish,

I followed all instructions to install the software and drivers prior to the workshop.  The files were installed in the C drive as instructed.  Starting the ADC Demo

    Hi Ashish,

Projects performed as expected durining the workshop.  However, I cannot get the quick start application to execute when I try to run, for example, the ADC Demo Project as it successfully did during the lab.  I installed a new lithium cell and connected the demo board to the notebook as shown in the demo project pdf.  All I see on the OLED screen are the underlined words "ADC Hands On Lab" with "AX: 1883 (last two characters rapidly changing between approx 76 ad 90)" on the next line .

    Perhaps the drivers need reloading?

NOTE:  I loaded and used the software on my wife's notebook for the lab since I normally work on two desktop PCs, one for general work and backup for video editing with Windows XP SP2 OS, and the other a quad with Windows 7 exclusively used for video editing for speed.  The general machine is used for all my emails (eroa@telus.net) has to be maintained at SP2 and IE 8.  Unfortunately the many useful applications for video editing on the ATI all-in-wonder card will not function with the changes made on the upgrade to Windows XP SP3.  As a result, I am getting messages that indicate problems when communicating with you because I am not using IE9 that requires SP3.

Would it be possible to communicate with my wife's notebook using Windows Live Mail via  jjratard@telus.net (this is not the email account (eroa@telus.net) I used for registration).?  The notebook account is used for limited contacts to avoid SPAM and unwanted emails.

  • John,

It is most likely that the Stellaris drivers on your computers are fine. You need reprogram the board. Just to make sure that drivers are fine, connect your EK-LM4F232 board to your computer via USB mini-B cable (at connector labelled J8 on the board), and check if the ports shown in the image below enumerate in the Windows Device Manager.

You mentioned that you followed the instructions for the ADC lab, and that you were able to successfully complete the ADC Demo project. As the part of the lab, you have reprogramed the flash memory of the MCU, and quick-start demo application that comes pre-programmed on the EK-LM4F232 board is no longer there. You will have to use any IDE (such as Code Composer Studio), or a flash programming utility (such as LM Flash Programmer) to reprogram your EK-LM4F232 board.

    1) Where to get LM Flash Programmer

    • LM Flash Programmer is a free flash programming utility intended to be used with Texas Instruments Stellaris microcontrollers, development boards, or evaluation boards.
    • Please download and install LM Flash Programmer to your computer from http://www.ti.com/tool/LMFlashprogrammer.
    • The procedure to install LM Flash Programmer is very straight forward. Just run the setup file and extract the files to the default path.

    2) How to use LM Flash Programmer

    • While EK-LM4F232 evaluation board is connected  to the computer, launch LM Flash Programmer from the Start menu.
    • In the Configuration tab, under Quick Set, select “LM4F232 Evaluation Board” from the drop down list.
    • In the Program tab, under Select .bin file, click on Browse, browse to C:\StellarisWare\boards\ek-lm4f232\qs-logger\rvmdk and program qs-logger.bin at adress 0x0. Under Options, select: Erase Entire Flash, type 0 for the Program Address Offset and click on the Program button. Following screen shot explains the procedure. Just ignore the file path shown in the screen shot below (Ignore the file paths shown in the screen shot).

I will also email this information to you at jjratard@telus.net and eroa@telus.net.
