Power supply for RM48 development kit?

Hello,

This question is to people who have the RM48 "Hercules" development board (TMDXRM48HDK):

Is the power supply in your kit 5V or 12V?

I'm asking because I've just got the kit from a coworker with a 5V supply. He says that the board works "almost" fine, but per the documentation and label on the board itself it should be 12V.

Thanks in advance,

Saul

  • Hello Saul,

The board was designed to work with either a 5V or 12V supply. However, some daughter cards that are designed to work with the HDK would require a 12V supply. As an example, if you are using the FlexRay daughter card, a 12V supply is required because of the nature of FlexRay.

However, I am curious about your comment that the board works "almost" fine with the 5V supply. If you could provide details on any issues you or your co-worker are seeing, we would certainly be willing to help you work through them and determine if this is a result of the 5V supply or if there is another issue with your board.

  • Thank you for the quick reply, Chuck.

The "almost" is a problem when this coworker tries to run a modified example program. He says that the instruction pointer starts from wrong location or like this. But the pre-built examples run fine. Nothing else is attached to the board besides of the USB to PC cable. So I tend to think this at least is not a hardware problem.

  • Saul,

I agree. This doesn't sound like a hardware issue. However, if you continue to have problems with it, let us know and we will be more than happy to help resolve it.
