CCS 5.2 installs on Linux, doesn't have build tools for Stellaris Launchpad

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

I installed CCS 5.2 following the guide, including the drivers.  However, when I create a project I get the "no build-tools are currently installed..." error.

Any ideas or is this the MSP430 thing all over again?

<edit>  looks like it doesn't have build tools for ANYTHING.  I tried ever combination of devices and none of them are installed.  I selected every possible install option for devices before download and install.

  • Hi,

how have you tried setting your Stellaris Launchpad up in LInux?  Could you provide more details?  Have you tried the 5.3 beta of CCS? You may need a slight hack, but should be able to get the launchpd functioning in Linux.  Have a look at this link:

    http://forum.stellarisiti.com/blog/6/entry-18-ccs-v52-linux-and-stellaris-launchpad/

    Please keep us informed.

    Best REgards,

I'm not sure what you mean by setting your Stellaris up in Linux?  Installing CCS and installing Stellaris drivers IS setting it up in Linux, right?  More details...following the tutorial ->Open CCS, new project, enter name, select exceutable, select device, etc... "finish" button is not selectable and the "no build-tools" error shows in the top of the window.  Change device to every device that is selectable in that menu of devices (100's of devices) results in the same thing.  It is apparent that the drivers I installed following the instructions on the linux instructions page are not recognized by CCS.

I'll try all the solutions from your link. <edit>  I tried all the links and links to other links, the other forums, everything on google.  The solution seems to be download and install according to the directions.  If it works, you're good to go.  If it doesn't, throw the Stellaris launchpad in the trash and move along.  2 Stellas in teh trash beside the 2 430's that didn't work on linux either.

Bad TI.  Develop an evaluation kit that just doesn't work?  Why?

  • Hi,

I am going to try to reproduce the issue for you.  Do you have any issues with the other devices?  Or does this seem limited to the launchpad?

I would like to do my best to help!

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

Thanks for helping.  Install Ubuntu 10.04 (12.04 also doesn't work) on your system.  Then, read (all) first and following the directions at the sites below and install CCS:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Download_CCS

    http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_ccstudio/CCSv5/CCS_5_2_1/exports/ReleaseNote.htm

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Linux_Host_Support

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Code_Composer_Studio_V5

Follow every tip on every link on every page listed above (ensure the hundreds of libraries are installed) and on the email links above.  Install CCS selecting every board and option for a full install.  Then, install drivers as root, even after running the CCS install as root because that doesn't work sometimes.  Then, open CCS and try to create a new project.  Enter the project name and you will get the error about no build-tools with no way of doing anything further.

  • Hi,

I have done some further investigation here and also brought in a couple colleagues to help out.  What I have found out is that at the moment support for these boards with Linux is not launched yet.   Ie, they are not yet officially supported under Linux.

My understanding it that there is a way to get beta support for them and get them to work, but I think that information is best from the Stellaris group where I will move this post. They will need to direct you further.

    All the best,

    Lisa
