More EK-LM4F120XL LaunchPad Workshop problems

I am also a new user to the LaunchPad and CCS.

After installing the software, I found nothing under Stellarisware\boards that supported the LaunchPad or LM4F120.

I tried building and debugging Hello frm the LM4F232 package, and ended up with the code lost in trying to set up the non-existent graphics device.

After eventually finding this Forum and reading another thread with Lisa's responses, I downloaded and installed the Lab package.

That really didn't help, since it still doesn't contain the basic example programs (and the out-of-the-box RGB project, now lost), and only offered Labs 4-9!

1) How can I find the LM4F120 Examples, and rebuild RGB?

2) How do I access the earlier Labs? For that matter, what Guide goes with the Labs?

Thanks!

Dave

  • The full workshop experience with videos and many files for all the chapters is at www.ti.com/stellarislaunchpadworkshop

Make sure you have the latest version of StellarisWare 9453 or greater to include the ek-lm4f120xl board.  Or get just the ek-lm4f120xl stellarisware package from www.ti.com/tool/sw-ek-lm4f120xl  If you already have the compiler running and the debug drivers installed then the top download in the list is the best option.

    Welcome to LaunchPad.

  • Well, that probably explains it!

Manifest.txt under the StellarisWare directory says version 9107.

I just downloaded this *yesterday* from TI !?!

  • Yes, much better now!

    Thanks, Dexter!

Still some learning curve issues, I guess.

When I examine C:\StellarisWare\boards\ek-lm4f120xl with Windows Explorer, I see like 16 project folders, including qs_rgb, hello, blinky, etc.

I went to Import Existing CCS-Eclipse Projects from that folder, and loaded only qs_rgb. Built and executed it fine.

I then returned to Import, and did Select All, and load. I expected to see all the projects appear in the Project Explorer window, but I only have freertos_demo, gpio_jtag, grlib_demo, and project0, besides the qs_rgb I explicitly loaded.

Trying again, to load just blinky, for example, the Importer warns me that it is already loaded. If so, where is it?

  • Good to hear you are up and running (at least mostly).

Regarding the missing projects: Close CCS. Now go into your workspace directory and look for folders and files related to the missing projects.  Delete anything from the workspace directory that is not correctly showing up in the workspace.  Now open CCS and try to import the missing stuff again.

  • I just got a little more information from our web team that may help others.

Sometimes if you have previously downloaded something like stellarisware from ti.com the browser  session and cookie information is still around.  This can cause the site to redirect you to the version you previously downloaded instead of the latest and greatest.

If you get stellarisware or something else and it looks like it may be an old version go back and clear the session, cookies, and browser history information from your browser and try again.

  • Looking back, I realized it was the CCS bundle package I had just downloaded, not the EK SW pack.

Apparently the bundle contains an older version of the examples, etc.

I also eventually figured out it was my workspace that contained the previously-loaded projects that weren't showing up. I deleted everything in the WS, and it all looks good.

I can now tweak and rebuild all the projects I have played with so far.

    Nice system!!

    Thanks for the help,

    Dave
