M4 Launchpad and the MSP430 Capsense booster pack

Has anybody got the M4 Launchpad working with the MSP430 Capsense booster pack?

Stellarisware comes with an example app for the booster pack. Its headers state if you add extra 30 Ohm (0603 1%) resistors to boosterpack it should work. ( Added to all non fitted resistor pads)

I had to remove the UART code just to get it to run (with UART code in it Faults immediately), The Cap Sense code does not detect changes on Capacitive touch pads :-(

May take me a little while to debug as im new to cap sensing, has anybody else got it going or have any good pointers to what to look for regarding the CapSense libs?

Thanks

Gordon

  • First and foremost we apologize that there was a mistake in the documentation.  The resistors should be 200k ohm for best results with the released software.

Also have you seen the CapSense Calibration tutorial on the Stellaris LaunchPad Wiki Page?  http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Stellaris_LaunchPad  This should help you to more quickly get your system up and running.  There is a wide variance in the capacitance of individual BoosterPacks so some calibration may be needed even for 200k resistors.

  • Hi Dexter,

    No problem, mistakes happen

30 - 200k, quite a difference, no wonder it wasn't working ;-) hehe, I'll have to wait until tomorrow before I get chance to swap them out.

I'd been via the wiki and hadn't noticed the capsense page, it has been there for nearly three weeks so I can't of been focused.. Thank you for pointing it out, hopefully anybody else that lands here will benefit too.

    Many thanks,

    Gordon
