Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EK-LM3S8962, SN65HVD251

hi, im new to this stellaris launchpad...

i bought it because it's price and because i red that it has CAN port...

does anyone use the Stellaris Launchpad to comunicate over CAN BUS?

i guess there are some examples on the software but i don't know if i need external hardware (transeiver for the CAN protocol) or the Stellaris Launchpad it's ready for CAN... thanks

  • So "help" was the best summary you could think of to clearly & accurately describe your post??

Are you familiar with Stellaris on any other platform?

Are you familiar with microcontrollers and/or (digital) electronics in general?

Are you familiar with CAN communication in general?

Have you looked at the schematics and studied the User Guide?

  • well it was the best description because i want help...

im familiar with electronics and other microcontrollers on general...

im not familiar with stellaris on other plataforms... and im not very familiar with CAN protocol... i red about other microcontrollers but they requires external hardware...

im gonna read more but thank you anyway i just want to know if i need an external hardware for that...

    thanks ;)

  • Jose,

If you post a better description of your question in the topic title, it lets other people investigate and respond to a post that falls in their area of expertise.

The Launchpad does not have a CAN transceiver on the board. If you want a Stellaris evaluation kit with a on-board transceiver, I recommend the EK-LM3S8962.

If you want to add a CAN transceiver to the Launchpad, I recommend the SN65HVD251. You may be able to get free samples of the breadboard friendly DIP package version.

No, it was a very poor description because it gave no idea whasoever about what help you want!

Just about every thread on these forums is started because people want "help" of some sort - Imagine if all the threads were just titled, "help"...

    Help!

Earlier suggestion of 8 pin DIP Can xcvr is just what our group did - you'll need two - one for each end...
