We are working on a project to develop a safety PLC, our project will be used in the microcontroller RM48L952, have some doubts and would like help.

Hello Guilherme,
Generally speaking TI does not have a specific crystal recommendation for our devices. In most cases, the crystal is chosen based on the specific application needs in regards to tolerance and desired temperature profile. Once the crystal is chosen and the ciruit design is completed, most crystal manufacturers will perform a characterization on the MCU/crystal combination and provide feedback about any changes needed for optimal performance.
For our internal test purposes, we generally use automotive grade crystals and usually use a value of 16MHz to provide the clock for the maximum rated operating frequencies. However, TI does not limit the customer's selection of the crystal frequency as long as it is within the limits provided in the datasheet.
Gentlemen
But it is not clear to me what is best to use a crystal or oscillator?

Hello Guilherme,
Either a crystal or oscillator can be used. There is no specific preference for the 570 devices. The only recommendations that we would have is that you follow the crystal or oscillator manufacturers guidelines for implementation and any necessary characterization of your final circuit. The only specific requirements we provide for the clock input in the datasheet is that is must be between 5 and 20MHz.
