Problem running Hercules Safety MCU Demos for RM48

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: RM48L950, HALCOGEN

Hi all,

I just completed installing the 'Hercules MCU Development KIt'.  I rebooted, connected the USB stick (RM48)

When I try running any demos, it asks to reprogram but it fails reprogramming with this message:

nowFlash has encountered an error while programming the device.  Please ensure that the device is correctly connected and then try running the demo again.

I have checked for updates for both nowFlash and Hercules software but they are the latest.

  • HI,

Are you able to successfully connect with CCS? Or are you facing some trouble with that as well?

    Here are some helpful links:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_CCS#Debugger

    and in particular

Let me know if the FAQs in the above don't help solve the problem.

  • I tried importing a demo under:

    C:\Program Files\Texas Instruments\Hercules\Hercules Safety MCU Demos\RM48 Hercules Demo\

After fixing the .map folder location which was giving a linking error, I got it to compile/link.

I tried to debug but it complained that there was no target (not sure why).  After some trial and error, I could find a 'Cortex-R4 CPU functional simulator' that seems

to be related to the board?

But now the CCS environment goes away (blank or another time I got 'not responding) forever.  I see in the Windows XP task manager that 'javaw.exe' takes 51% of the CPU with 1.5GB of ram.

I had to kill the task so not not much luck yet.

  • I tried the target/device 'Texas Instruments XDS100v2 USB Emulator' with 'RM48L950' and got further.

I used 'Debug current project'.  With this option I see a 'Operation in progress...  Loading program 'RM48HerculesDemo...XDS100v2 USB Emulator_0/CortexR4' for  several minutes (Is there a way to speed it up?) and then long time and then it seems to be running 'Thread [main] (Running)' but if I halt it, it seems to be stuck in 'sys_memory.asm' around line 182 'load RAM initialization mask'.

  • It may be that you have something incorrect in your CCS setup. The no target error certainly suggest that.

I would recommend having a look at one of our How To videos as they go through the correct setup for Hercules products in CCS.

    Here is one:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOBWhFE0LZg

Keep in mind, you may need to substitute the part number used in the How To with the one you have access to.

This particular video goes over HALCoGen setup and then goes over the CCS setup.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Abhishek

  • Thanks but youtube is blocked where I work...

Like I said in my previous post, I can now load and step the demo.  It just gets stuck in the _memoryInit_() function.
