Hi,

I'm working on a TMDX570LS31HDK. Multi buffered SPI (MibSPI5) can be used in parallel 8 mode so the ouput should use 8 pins for SOMI lines 0 to 7.

In HalCoGe (in the MibSPI5 and in mux tabs) and in the user manual pin description there are SOMI lines only from 0 to 3.

Where are the others?

Can the TMDX570LS31HDK use 8 parallel mode or this is reserved to other HW models?

Hello Matteo,

The LS3137 device only supports a 4-pin parallel mode even though the IP is capable of supporting up to 8 pins. Also, halcogen does not currently support parallel mode. I will forward your post to our halocgen lead so they can can comment further on any plans to support it.

what does "IP is capable of supporting up to 8 pins" means?

What about TDMXRM48HDK? (I can choose to use the latter but the differences are not entirely clear to me)

What I mean by this is that the MibSPI parallel mode feature was designed to support up to 8 pins. However on the LS3137 as well as the RM48 devices, it is implemented as a reduced implementation and supports only pins 0 - 3 as you have observed in the reference manual and data sheet.

Chuck, Is it possible to use the 4 i/p pins as o/p pins in addition to the 4 o/p pins in half duplex mode?

No. Half duplex is not supported by SPI. Generally speaking, SPI is an exchange of data between a master and slave. i.e., when the data is clocked out from one side, data from the other side is clocked in so the SOMI and SIMO pins are dedicated from a directional point of view.
