Hello.
I have refered datasheet of TMS570LS3137.

spns162a:
(P38) 3.1 Absolute Maximum Ratings Over Operating Free-Air Temperature Range,
  Input voltage range: ADC input pins .. -0.3 V to 5 V

On absolute maximum ratings, ADC input pins is -0.3V to 5V.
But, it seems that the AVI(Analog input voltage) is allowed up to MAX 5.25V.

spns162a: (P117) 5.2.3 ADC Electrical and Timing Specifications
  VAI: Analog input voltage .. ADREFLO[MIN] ADREFHI[MAX] V

※ ADREFHI: A-to-D high-voltage reference source .. ADREFLO[MIN] VCCAD[MAX] V
   VCCAD:   MibADC supply voltage .. 3[MIN] 3.3[NOM] 3.6[MAX] V
                                     4.5[MIN] 5.0[NOM] 5.25[MAX] V

 - How do you think about this?

 - Is the ADC input pin allowed voltage between 5V and 5.25V?

Best regards, RY

  • Hello,

The max input voltage to the ADC must not exceed the VCCAD supply. The VCCAD supply range is from 3V min to 5.25V max to account for a 10% tolerance for supplies of nominal 3.3V or 5V. For designing the system, you should only plan on inputting up to 5V into the ADC channels.

  • Sunil-san,

    Thank you for your advice.
Since Absolute maximum ratings specifies up to 5V for ADC input pin, it seems that it have some risk when using 5V.
I think if the ADC input support up to 5V, it needs more margin for absolute maximum ratings.

Or, when I input 5V to ADC, do you have any idea to save device from damage? (some reference circuit etc..)

    Best regards, RY

  • The absolute maximum analog input voltage on any ADC channel is 5.25V. This will be updated in the next release of the datasheet.
