Power design

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS570LS3137

Hi:

I found that the power supply in the TMS570LS3137 HDK is 12V, well it is only 5V about the TMS570 Control Card. Is the 12V power  much more stable than the 5V in the control card? What's the reason to use the 12V power in the HDK?

Which is better between the two designs? The 5V power design seems simpler than the 12V HDK used.

If they are both ok, the 5V plan seems more economic.

yong

  • Hi Yong,

LS31x device supports 3.3V and 5V ADC power supply, and 3.3V~5V high-voltage reference. If you want to use 5V as ADC reference source, you need 12V power supply.

The daughter card can use the 12V on expansion connectors to power Flexray transceivers, LIN PHY.

  • Hi,QJ

I still do not understand very clearly, is there any better performance when use 5V as the ADC reference source? I notice that the can receiver, USB part and the Ethernet part on the HDK schematic use the VCC5V, well, the control card not.

If I use the 5v supply instead of 12v, the VCC5V of the can receivers .etc maybe not work correctly?

    Best regards,

  • Yong,

If your application needs to convert 5v input, the ADC voltage reference has to be 5v.

In order to regulate on board 5v, the supply voltage for the board has to be higher. (9v, 12v)

12v is convenient because for automotive application, it is your Vbatterie. Also many line driver (CAN, LIN...) need 12v.

If your application does not have these requirements than a 5v supply will work.

  • Thanks you a lot, I'll verify the requirements of my application.
