LM4F120XL: two LM4F120H5QR MCU chips on board

Hi,

There are two LM4F120H5QR MCU chips mounted on LM4F120XL.   But in the user guide description

of one MCU is clear,  but the other is not known.  What is the purpose of two MCU's on this LM4F120XL?

Can they both function simultaneously ?

Thanks,

Aravind S

  • The 2nd MCU performs the USB to JTAG function - required to debug/program that board...

While this 2nd MCU is loading code into the main MCU - the main MCU is unable to execute any user code.

The intent is to mimic the operation of all past ICDI devices - yet confine that capability to a single board...

Hi, On user guide the one near USB socket is reported as ICDI emulator, also other Launchpad have another cpu to access on board chip for programming emulate thru JTAG, stellaris/TIVA follow same rules.
